The Board of Directors of Caribbean Airlines has announced the sudden resignation of its Chief Executive Officer, Garvin Medera, with immediate effect.
In a statement released on Monday, the board expressed gratitude to Medera for his “years of service and leadership,” wishing him all the best in his future endeavours.
Medera, who has been at the helm of the national carrier through some of its most challenging years — including the turbulent pandemic period — shared heartfelt words of appreciation:
“I want to take this opportunity to thank all the employees of Caribbean Airlines who have done such a fantastic job over the past few years, facing some very difficult challenges and being their best, time and again, for each other and our passengers. Also, thanks to partners for their support and commitment and customers for their trust and loyalty. I wish everyone well.”
To ensure continuity and stability, the Board has appointed Chief Operating Officer, Nirmala Ramai, as Acting CEO until further notice. She will work closely with the senior leadership team to guide the airline through this period of transition.
The airline reaffirmed its commitment to developing internal talent, emphasizing that opportunities for growth and advancement will continue to be offered to employees before seeking external candidates.
The Board also stressed that the leadership change comes at a critical juncture for the airline, underscoring its ongoing focus on stability, safety, and accountability.
Meanwhile, Caribbean Airlines has reassured the public that all flights will continue as scheduled, with no disruption to passengers or partners.
