Old Harbour, St Catherine — Popular social media personality ‘Candy Wow’, whose real name is Keresia Brown, was remanded in custody today after appearing before the St Catherine Parish Court on a charge of assault occasioning bodily harm.
Brown, known for her viral online presence, is accused of attacking a woman at her vending stall in Old Harbour on April 13. The incident reportedly resulted in the complainant sustaining injuries, prompting a police report and Brown’s subsequent arrest.
During her court appearance, Brown pleaded not guilty to the charge and informed Parish Judge Yvette Wentworth-Miller that she did not have legal representation. The judge ordered that she be remanded until May 16, by which time she is expected to have secured a lawyer.
In a surprising development, the court was informed that Brown has claimed she is not Jamaican, but instead an Irish national, and that she has been operating under multiple names. She reportedly told authorities she had changed her name by deed poll.
The Passport, Immigration & Citizenship Agency (PICA) has been brought in to verify Brown’s nationality. A PICA representative present in court confirmed that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine her true identity and immigration status.
The case has drawn public interest given Brown’s online popularity and the ongoing questions surrounding her background.
The matter will return to court on May 16.
