Kingston, Jamaica — Four men have been formally charged with firearm-related offenses after police discovered a submachine gun and ammunition hidden under the driver’s seat of the vehicle they were travelling in on Monday morning.
The accused have been identified as Mark Wright, 46, a construction worker from Rushworth Avenue; Ramone ‘Prince’ Fisher, 27, a forklift operator from Dilpath Crescent; Oshane Gayle, 32, from Camoy Road; and 25-year-old Giovanni Bonitto of Barbados Road — all residents of Kingston 11.
According to reports from the St Andrew South Police Division, around 9:30 a.m. on April 28, law enforcement officers were conducting operations in the Waterhouse area when they observed a vehicle with four men behaving suspiciously. The police signalled the driver to stop at the intersection of Dilpath Crescent and Barbados Avenue, where a search of the vehicle was conducted in full view of the occupants.
During the search, officers reportedly found a black submachine gun fitted with a magazine containing nineteen 9mm rounds concealed beneath the driver’s seat. The weapon has since been sent for forensic analysis.
The men were charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of unauthorised ammunition.
The find marks the second high-powered weapon recovered in the area within three days. On Saturday, April 26, an AK-47 assault rifle was reportedly discovered hidden under zinc sheets along Dilpath Crescent during another police operation.
The St Andrew South Police Division continues its crackdown on illegal firearms as part of wider national efforts to reduce gun violence and dismantle criminal networks.
Investigations are ongoing, and the men are expected to appear in court later this week.
