A 54-year-old British national, Glenn McIrvine Mason, was taken into police custody on Monday, September 30, 2024, for suspected breaches under the Dangerous Drugs Act. Mason, a counselor and social worker from England, was attempting to board a flight to London-Gatwick when members of the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) intercepted him.
Upon searching his suitcase during check-in, officials found two pairs of slippers with false compartments containing a white powdery substance resembling cocaine weighing approximately 1.5 pounds. Investigations are ongoing, and charges will be laid against Mason.
This latest seizure follows the August 16, 2024 arrest of two British nationals, Nenisha Nelson-Roberts and Shelby Chyna Byng, at Sangster International Airport. The duo was found with 14 lbs of cocaine concealed in packages disguised as porridge mixes and coffee.
Since the start of 2024, the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division has arrested a total of twenty-seven (27) foreign nationals between January 1, 2024 and September 30, 2024 for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act. The successful interception of these foreign nationals sends a strong message that Jamaica will not tolerate drug trafficking.
