Bounty Foundation Boosts Bellevue Hospital with Key Equipment Donation

Kingston, Jamaica — Bellevue Hospital clients are set to experience improved care and comfort following a timely donation of essential equipment from the Bounty Foundation. On September 26, dancehall legend Rodney “Bounty Killer” Pryce and his manager, Paul “Bankey” Giscombe, handed over two air-conditioning units, five wheelchairs, and nine walkers to Bellevue Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Suzette Buchanan.

The donation is part of an ongoing commitment by the Bounty Foundation to support mental health care in Jamaica. Buchanan expressed her appreciation, stating that the contribution “not only enhances Bellevue’s facilities but also underscores the Bounty Foundation’s dedication to mental health advocacy and community upliftment.”

The air-conditioning units are set to transform the hospital’s newly renovated family room, providing a more comfortable and welcoming space for patients and their families. This family room, the first of its kind at Bellevue, is part of a larger effort to bridge the gap between patients and their loved ones, enhancing the healing process through closer family connections.

The renovation of the family room began in May 2024, jumpstarted by a $500,000 donation from Jamaican football star Leon Bailey. The collaboration between Bellevue and the Bounty Foundation marks a significant step toward reshaping mental health care in Jamaica.

Pryce, moved by a television feature that showcased a community-led donation of roofing materials to Bellevue after Hurricane Beryl, felt compelled to take further action. “Seeing how the community came together to support the hospital really inspired me to do more,” Pryce said. “Family plays such a big role in mental health recovery, and I wanted to contribute in a meaningful way.”

Buchanan praised the Bounty Foundation’s efforts, noting that the equipment will greatly improve the hospital’s ability to offer comprehensive care. “These contributions will empower our patients, helping them navigate their environment with more independence and dignity,” she said.

As Bellevue Hospital continues to prioritize the well-being and recovery of its patients, Buchanan expressed hope for more partnerships like this, where the power of community and celebrity can come together to make a lasting impact.
