The internationally renowned Boston Jerk Centre in Portland has been ordered closed by the local health department due to ongoing sanitation issues, unhealthy practices, and the sale of uninspected meat. The closure was enforced on September 6, following a series of inspections by officials from the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
Health authorities stated that the decision was necessary after the facility repeatedly failed to meet the minimum public health standards. Over the past year, health officials monitored the centre and observed a decline in its sanitation and food safety practices. Despite previous interventions, the conditions worsened, leaving the health department with no choice but to close the establishment.
This is not the first time the Boston Jerk Centre has faced closure for similar breaches. In January 2016, it was also shut down due to issues involving poor sanitation, lack of running water, and the sale of uninspected meat. Health officials emphasized that the closure is in line with public health regulations aimed at protecting consumers.
