Kimauly Hoyles, a 38-year-old airport employee from Patrick City, St Andrew, was arrested on Thursday at Sangster International Airport by the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) while attempting to leave the country using an American passport.
The arrest came as Hoyles sought to evade the authorities, after failing to appear in court for sentencing related to drug charges.
Hoyles had previously been charged with several drug-related offences, including possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, attempting to export cocaine, trafficking cocaine, conspiracy to export cocaine, and possession of criminal property. These charges stem from a significant cocaine bust on December 10, 2020, at the Norman Manley International Airport, where over $2 billion worth of cocaine was seized.
On May 30, 2024, Hoyles was found guilty of the charges and was scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday at the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court. However, after failing to appear, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.
FNID investigators apprehended Hoyles at the airport as he attempted to flee using a passport under a different name from his employment records and criminal history.
Hoyles remains in police custody pending further investigation. Authorities continue to collaborate with local and international partners to target individuals involved in serious crimes that pose a threat to the nation.
