The search for 19-year-old Derricka Rogers has ended in tragedy with the discovery of her badly decomposed body in a pit at an unfinished house in Clarendon.
Rogers had been reported missing on May 27, after she left home to visit her boyfriend. Her body was found wrapped in a sheet and dumped in a pit at the same property linked to the man she was last known to be visiting.
Police have identified a suspect in the case, who reportedly left the island shortly after being questioned by investigators. While the suspect had initially denied any involvement in Rogers’s disappearance, authorities say the timeline of events has raised serious concerns.
Several individuals are now being interrogated, including the driver who allegedly transported the suspect to the airport.
Due to the advanced state of decomposition, the cause of death has not yet been confirmed, but investigators believe foul play is involved.
The discovery has left the Clarendon community in mourning, with friends and relatives remembering Rogers as a kind and vibrant young woman. The case has sparked renewed public outcry over violence against women, with many calling for swift justice.
Police say the investigation remains active and are working with international agencies to locate and apprehend the suspect.
