MANCHESTER, Jamaica – A man is recovering in hospital following a serious two-vehicle collision on the Fine Grass to Chudleigh main road in north east Manchester on Saturday night.
Preliminary reports indicate that the crash occurred around 10:00 p.m., when a Honda Civic, travelling toward Walderston, collided with a Honda Stream heading in the opposite direction.
The impact left both vehicles blocking the roadway. Shortly after the crash, fire was observed coming from the engine of the Honda Civic. The driver, who sustained serious injuries including a broken leg, was able to exit the vehicle before it was engulfed in flames.
Responders from the Christiana police and fire brigade arrived at the scene shortly after being alerted. While assessing the situation, police reportedly discovered bags of what appeared to be ganja in the trunk of the Honda Civic. The quantity and estimated value of the substance were not disclosed.
The injured driver was transported to hospital by police using a service pickup truck. His current condition is unknown at this time.
Authorities have launched an investigation into both the circumstances surrounding the crash and the suspected contraband.
