Kingston, Jamaica — The police have charged a Beryllium security driver in connection with the disappearance of two bags of cash that went missing from a security vehicle during transport.
Fifty-two-year-old Aldin Nelson, a driver from Harbour View, Kingston 17, has been formally charged with simple larceny. A court date is yet to be set.
According to the police report, the incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, November 7. Beryllium security officers were transporting a load of 48 cash bags, containing an undisclosed sum, along Sir Florizel Glasspole Boulevard en route to Norman Manley International Airport. During the journey, a motorist alerted the security team that the back door of the armored truck was open and that two bags had reportedly fallen onto the roadway.
Upon checking, the security officers found that the rear of the truck was unlocked, but despite a search of the area, the missing bags could not be recovered. The disappearance prompted a police investigation, which led officers to conduct a search of Nelson’s home. There, they reportedly discovered a small bag containing the missing money.
Nelson was subsequently arrested and charged following a question-and-answer session conducted in the presence of his attorney. The police continue to urge strict adherence to security protocols for transport to prevent similar incidents.
