Montego Bay, Jamaica: A heated altercation between two men on Lightbody Avenue in Montego Bay turned deadly on Friday night, resulting in the death of one man and leaving the other seriously injured.
Reports are that around 8:00 PM, a 58-year-old man known as ‘African’ a well-known auto body repairman in the area, became embroiled in a dispute with a woman over a cellphone. During the argument, another man intervened in an attempt to de-escalate the situation by taking the phone from African.
However, this action only aggravated the situation, leading ‘African’ to arm himself with a machete. He then attacked man inflicting severe chop wounds to his left shoulder and the left side of his head.
In response, the man reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed ‘African’ once in the chest. ‘African’, bleeding profusely, ran from the scene and sought help at the nearby Barnett Street Police Station, where he collapsed. He was rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The man, who was also injured, was taken to the hospital by a resident and remains under police guard.
Montego Bay police have launched an investigation into the incident and are appealing to anyone with information on the incident to come forward as investigations continue.
