Jamaica Crime News, St James: Assault Rifles Seized During Joint Military Operation – A joint military operation which is now being carried out in Salt Spring, in St James have resulted in the seizure of four assault rifles over the past 24-hours.
The first rifle was seized on Thursday afternoon, while three others were seized on Friday morning, March 22.
The police have also reported that several men from the community have been detained during the operation.
Reports by the police are that on Friday morning, a joint military team combed sections of Doony Corner and other adjoining areas in Salt Spring, which led to the seizure of an M-16 assault rifle and two other assault rifles.
Four magazines and several rounds of ammunition were also seized during the operation.
Prior to Friday morning discovery, a team of officers carried out an operation at a section of Salt Spring, known as Doony Corner.
During the operation, one M-16 Assault rifle, with an empty magazine was discovered on a premises in the area.
The police say they will be continuing to carry out a series of operations within that area, in an aim to rid the community of armed men and other criminal elements.
