An alleged contract killer for the notorious Kings Valley Gang was one of two men fatally shot during a police operation in Lime Hall, St Ann, on Tuesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Richard Hemmings, otherwise called ‘Black Oil’ or ‘Chin Mix’. The second man has not yet been identified.
Hemmings was an alleged affiliate of the Kings Valley Gang, where he reportedly served as a contract killer, triggerman, and enforcer.
According to police reports, the deadly encounter occurred during a pre-dawn operation, as lawmen acted on a warrant for a man wanted for serious offences, including shooting with intent.
Upon approaching a two-bedroom house in Gravel Hill, two men allegedly attempted to flee through the rear of the premises and opened fire on the police team.
A shootout reportedly ensued, resulting in both men being shot and killed. A .45 calibre pistol was allegedly recovered at the scene.
No members of the police team were injured during the operation.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is investigating the incident.
So far this year, up to July 8, a total of 171 people have been killed by security forces, a sharp increase compared to the 78 killed during the same period last year.
Meanwhile, police sources say Hemmings was allegedly wanted in multiple police divisions for a string of violent crimes, including murders, shootings, and wounding with intent.
Hemmings was reportedly considered an active member of the Kings Valley Gang for nearly a decade and was known for his distinctive bleached brown complexion. He allegedly operated in Grange Hill, Westmoreland, and Lime Hall, St Ann.
