SPANISH TOWN, St Catherine — An alleged suspect linked to the Christmas Day double murder on March Pen Road was shot and killed during an early-morning confrontation with police in St Catherine.
The deceased has been identified as 43-year-old Damion McDonald, otherwise called ‘Jilla’, an unemployed resident of March Pen Road.
According to police reports, around 12:20 a.m., officers acting on intelligence connected to the Christmas Day killings went to Mocklenn Crescent in search of suspects. Upon entering a residence and knocking on the back door, McDonald was reportedly seen holding a firearm, which he allegedly aimed at the officers.
In response, police said they opened fire in self-defense. McDonald fell while clutching the weapon and was rushed to Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The firearm was seized by authorities.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and the Inspectorate of Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (IPSO) are currently probing the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
