Accused Robber Denied Bail in Kingston Parish Court

KINGSTON, Jamaica — A man who allegedly robbed another man at gunpoint and threatened to take him before a local “don” has been remanded in custody following his appearance in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday.

The accused, Dwayne White, is facing a charge of robbery with aggravation stemming from an incident that occurred on Friday, April 25, around 5:00 p.m. along Hagley Park Road in Kingston.

According to court documents, the complainant noticed two men following him and attempted to evade them by entering a nearby business establishment. However, upon leaving, he was confronted by White and another man.

The men reportedly accused the complainant of resembling someone responsible for killing a relative and told him they would be taking him to a “don” to confirm his identity. They then allegedly robbed him of bank cards and other personal items, before forcibly taking him to an ATM where they attempted to withdraw cash. They threatened to harm him if the PIN he provided did not work.

In addition to trying to access his bank account, the accused also allegedly attempted to reset the victim’s Google password using the stolen phone.

After the incident, the complainant filed a police report. White was later identified in an identification parade.

In court, Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell remarked that additional charges could be laid, including kidnapping and cybercrime offences. She also cited the timing of the incident—occurring on payday in a busy commercial area—as part of her reasoning to deny bail.

“Based on the allegations, everyone here is a potential victim,” Judge Burrell stated.

White is scheduled to return to court on September 20.
