Kingston, Jamaica — Travis Ellis, the man charged with the murder of veteran journalist Barbara Gayle, has been remanded in custody until June 3 for a pre-trial readiness hearing in the Home Circuit Court.
Ellis, who faces charges of murder and robbery with aggravation, was returned to custody after a recent court appearance. The court was told that a completed psychiatric evaluation found him fit to enter a plea.
Gayle was found dead at her Caymanas Estate home in St Catherine on December 17, 2024, with multiple stab wounds and head injuries. Police allege Ellis was last seen with her the day before and later drove her Mercedes-Benz, which was recovered in Portmore.
He is represented by King’s Counsel Tom Tavares-Finson and attorney-at-law Donahue Martin.
