St Ann, Jamaica: Woman Murdered in St Ann – Disgruntled residents in Bamboo, St Ann, urge police to swiftly apprehend those responsible for the brutal killing of an 80-year-old woman at her home in Spring Gardens district on Wednesday, with her house set ablaze.
The deceased, identified as Sylvia Barrett, was a well-known farmer who also ran a ground provisions shop from her home.
Reports indicate that shortly after 6:00 pm, a family member noticed fire emanating from a section of her four-bedroom concrete house and raised the alarm.
Community members gathered and extinguished the blaze, which had already engulfed parts of the living room. Upon searching for the elderly woman, her body was found in the dining room, bound hands and feet with a gag in her mouth.
Community members condemned the gruesome killing, suggesting Barrett may have been assaulted, robbed, murdered, and her house set on fire by the attackers.
Police await post-mortem examination results to determine the cause of death.
