KINGSTON, Jamaica — A 59-year-old marketing consultant is now facing serious fraud charges after allegedly swindling nearly $9 million from a man in a bogus apartment deal.
The accused, Michelle Burrell, of Fairway Avenue, Kingston 5, has been charged with fraudulent conversion in connection with a series of shady transactions that took place between January and May 2024.
According to police reports, a man handed over $8.9 million to Burrell as a deposit for an apartment in Kingston. But after sealing the deal, the man claimed he was unable to contact her, despite numerous attempts.
With red flags waving, the matter was swiftly reported to the authorities, and an investigation was launched.
On Wednesday, July 23, investigators made a major breakthrough and arrested Burrell. She was officially charged on Saturday, August 2 following an interview conducted in the presence of her attorney.
Burrell is scheduled to appear before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Friday, August 8.
