63-Year-Old Woman Faces Manslaughter Charges in Tragic Death of St. Catherine Boy Left in Car

 Kingston, Jamaica — A 63-year-old woman from St. Catherine has been charged with manslaughter following the tragic death of a four-year-old boy, Jordane Clarke, who was left in a locked car outside a basic school in Kingston. The incident occurred on February 24, 2022, when Lurline Naylor, a retiree from Innswood Parkway in Innswood Village, St. Catherine, allegedly left Clarke in the vehicle for several hours.

According to police reports, Naylor had transported Clarke and other children to Destowe Bennette Basic School on the morning of the incident. Upon arrival, she exited the vehicle with the other children, reportedly forgetting Clarke inside. It wasn’t until approximately 3:00 p.m. that Naylor returned to the car and made the devastating discovery—Clarke was unresponsive.

The child was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The incident has since raised concerns about child safety and the responsibilities of caregivers in such situations.

After an extensive investigation, which included a formal question-and-answer session with the police, Naylor was officially charged with manslaughter on Monday. Authorities have indicated that the charge is based on allegations of gross negligence leading to the child’s death.

Naylor is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday to answer to the charges. The community remains in shock over the incident, which has highlighted the importance of vigilance when transporting young children.
