Residents across several eastern parishes felt tremors early Tuesday morning after a moderate earthquake struck offshore, according to the Earthquake Unit at the University of the West Indies (UWI).
Seismic data shows the quake measured magnitude 5.6 and occurred at approximately 3:18 a.m., prompting reports of shaking in multiple communities.
UWI scientists reported that the quake’s epicentre was located about 80 kilometres east of Manchioneal in Portland. The event registered at a focal depth of roughly 10 kilometres.
No immediate reports of damage or injuries were issued at the time of the initial bulletin. Authorities continue to monitor the situation.
