48 Illegal Firearms Seized in St.James Since the Start of the Year

Jamaica News: Since the start of the year the St James police have seized a total of 48 illegal firearms from the streets of the parish.  The police have also reported that several hundred rounds of assorted ammunition have also been seized along with these illegal firearms.

Over 20 men have been convicted in connection with these seizures and most of these accused are known repeated offenders.

One police source at the Montego Bay Freeport Station told our news team that, most of these weapons were seized under the State of Public Emergency and most of the well-known troubled communities such as Flankers, Norwood, Glendevon, Salt Spring, Barrett Town, Rose Heights and Granville have been relatively quiet.

A number of these areas are frequent lit up with gun salutes and gang violence but illegal activities in which these illegal firearms were being used have faded drastically.
