A 48-hour curfew has been imposed on Central Village in St. Catherine following a recent escalation of violence. The decision comes after a series of incidents, including an intense gun battle and a firebombing that occurred at approximately 8:25 p.m. on Tuesday night. Additionally, two individuals were shot and injured in the community during a candlelight vigil on Thursday, August 1.
The boundaries of the curfew are as follows:
North: An imaginary line running east to west from the range at the National Police College of Jamaica (NPCJ) to Windsor Road, near the Prophetess Morris Christian Church.
West: An imaginary line extending from Ashtrom Jamaica, along the eastbound lane of the Mandela Highway, to the range at NPCJ.
East: An imaginary line from Windsor Road, near the Prophetess Morris Christian Church, to the Compound taxi stand, located near the eastbound lane of the Mandela Highway.
South: An imaginary line from the Compound taxi stand, running east to west along the section of the eastbound lane of the Mandela Highway, to Ashtrom Jamaica.
The curfew aims to restore order and ensure the safety of residents in the affected area.
