KINGSTON, Jamaica (Mckoy’s News) — The streets of East Kingston are now under tight lockdown, as law enforcement clamps down on criminal activity with the imposition of a 48-hour curfew, effective Friday, August 15 at 6:00 p.m.
The curfew will remain in place until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, and affects several volatile communities within the Kingston Eastern Police Division.
This move comes as tensions remain high across the island, following recent gang flare-ups and deadly shootings, including the targeted hit on a police officer and his family in St. James.
Curfew Boundaries
According to police, the boundaries of the curfew are defined as follows:
- NORTH: From Mountain View Primary School to Cane River Falls, along the Mountain Ridge.
- EAST: From Cane River Falls to the bridge at 10 Miles, Bull Bay.
- SOUTH: Along the coastline, stretching from 10 Miles Bridge to Flag Circle.
- WEST: From Flag Circle to Vineyard Road, then onto an imaginary line back to Mountain View Primary School.
Strict Orders for Residents
During the curfew hours, all persons within the affected area are required to stay indoors. Anyone found outside without proper authorisation from the Ground Commander risks being detained or prosecuted.
The police have issued a warning to residents: only those with legitimate clearance will be allowed movement within the zone.
Sources say the operation is intelligence-driven and aims to disrupt gang operations, seize illegal weapons, and restore calm in the area.
Tightening the Grip on Crime
This curfew is the latest in a series of security clampdowns across Jamaica, as law enforcement intensifies its crackdown on criminal networks.
Citizens are urged to cooperate with the authorities and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or by calling 119.
