Detectives in the St Catherine North Police Division are probing the fatal shooting of a young man in Linstead on Saturday morning.
The deceased has been identified as 23-year-old Tyreese Richards, a labourer from the Time and Patience district in the parish.
According to police reports, the incident occurred about 5:30 a.m. along Fletcher’s Avenue. Richards was reportedly at a stall when he was approached by two armed assailants. The men allegedly opened gunfire, hitting him multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Law enforcement officers were alerted, and upon arrival, found Richards suffering from gunshot wounds to his chest, hands, and upper body. He was transported to the Linstead Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators have not yet determined a motive for the attack, and the Linstead Criminal Investigation Branch is continuing its inquiries.
Police statistics indicate that this incident raises the murder count in the division to eight since the start of the year, compared to 13 recorded during the same period last year.
