A 23-year-old inmate has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of another prisoner at the Annotto Bay Police Station lock-up in St Mary.
The accused has been identified as Nolando Atkinson, a construction worker of Boscobel View, St Mary. He was charged on Monday in relation to the death of 34-year-old Eraldo Francis, a contractor of Tremolsworth, Highgate, in the parish.
According to reports from the Port Maria Police, shortly after midday on Saturday, December 6, a disturbance broke out among inmates housed at the lock-up. Police intervened to restore order, and during checks of the facility, Francis was found unresponsive with stab wounds to the chest.
He was rushed to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
An investigation was subsequently launched, and Atkinson was later implicated based on statements gathered by investigators. He was formally charged with murder following a question-and-answer interview conducted on Sunday.
The matter is expected to return to court at a later date
