CLARENDON, Jamaica — Tragedy struck the parish of Clarendon twice this weekend, claiming the lives of four people in two separate motor vehicle collisions.
On Sunday, 19-year-old Amoy Smith, a hairdresser from Mike Town, Manchester, died after being thrown from a motorcycle along the Clarendon Park main road around 4:45 p.m. She was a pillion passenger on a Missile-brand motorcycle that collided with a grey Nissan motor truck traveling in the opposite direction.
Smith sustained multiple injuries and was transported to hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The incident is under investigation by the Four Paths Police.
The fatality occurred just a day after a deadly crash in Salt River, also in Clarendon, where three lives were lost, including that of an eight-year-old girl.
In that Saturday incident around 9:15 a.m., the driver of a blue Toyota Corolla reportedly made a right turn onto the Salt River main road and collided with a motor truck heading west. All three individuals in the car died on the spot.
The Clarendon Police have launched investigations into both collisions.
According to the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB), 182 civilians have died in traffic crashes so far in 2025—16 fewer than the 198 deaths recorded in the same period last year.
Authorities are again urging motorists to drive with caution as the nation continues to mourn lives lost on its roads.
