A very youthful Jamaica team departed the island on Sunday for the Dominican Republic to represent Jamaica at the three-day Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship which will be played at the Iberostar Golf Course in Bavaro between July 31 and August 2.
Team manager Sebert Walker said that the team had their first of two practice on Monday and that it went well. The second practice will be held on Tuesday at the same venue as the championship course. That will include two new players – Kingston Burke and Kierra Williams – who travelled from the USA to meet the rest of the team in the Dominican Republic.
The full team of male and female players are Aman Dhiman, Oshae Haye, Rocco Lopez, Ryan Lue, Zandre Roye, Jack Stein, Kingston Burke, Mattea Issa, Emily Mayne and Kierra Williams.
Jodi Munn-Barrow, president of the Jamaica Golf Association has high expectation for the team. “The Jamaica Golf Association is very pleased with the team that will be representing Jamaica at the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship. It is a quite historic moment as all team members are under the age of thirty including some of our juniors who will be representing us at the junior championship the following week in Kingston. We know that the members will be playing their hardest. They had an extra practice round today and they really are eager and are looking forward to the start of the event. We wish them all the bests and we know that they will make Jamaica proud.”
