The Jamaica Golf Association has announced a strong team which is dominated by young players, to this year’s Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship. It is scheduled for the Barbados Golf Course in Barbados from Wednesday July 2 to Friday July 4.
The team was selected after the recent national amateur golf trials at the Caymanas Golf Course in St. Catherine where Zandre Roye and junior player Mattea Issa topped the male and female categories.
The six-player male team members are Zandre Roye, Aman Dhiman, Camden Purboo, Trey Williams, Oshae Haye and Ryan Lue. Sean Morris was named as the reserve player.
Ryan Lue, at 18 years is the youngest member of the male team. He was recently crowned the national amateur golf champion. Trey Williams and Aman Dhiman played on the junior team up to last year.
The team boasts a significant amount of experience with most of the members having represented Jamaica at the senior level at least once before, except for Camden Purboo who is making his debut. Three of the team members are former national golf champions including reserve player Sean Morris. The other two are Znadre Roye and Oshae Haye.
Mattea Issa, Emily Mayne and Kingston Burke will try to take back the female trophy for Jamaica as well as contribute the overall country trophy. Issa at 18 years old is the youngest of the three. She has been having a good season on the golf course. Mayne has also been having a good season at university in the United States. All three female players have represented Jamaica at the senior level previously and should give a good account of themselves and make Jamaica proud.
