Montego Bay, St. James — A young woman identified as Tanya Smith has tragically passed away following a severe acid attack in Montego Bay. Tanya, who was only 20 years old and would have celebrated her 21st birthday in February, succumbed to her injuries on Sunday, October 13, after weeks of battling for her life at the Cornwall Regional Hospital.
The incident occurred on September 7 as Tanya waited for a ride along Straddle Drive. Reports indicate that while she was waiting, an unknown man engaged her in conversation, seemingly acting as a distraction. Moments later, another man approached from behind and poured a corrosive substance, believed to be acid, over her head. The attackers fled immediately, leaving Tanya with severe burns over most of her body.
Tanya, described by friends and family as a humble and private individual, was employed as a customer service representative at a call center in Montego Bay. She was known to be non-confrontational and spent most of her time at home when not working. Her father and loved ones are devastated by her loss, describing her as a dedicated and kind-hearted young woman.
Family members, along with community members, are now calling on anyone with information to come forward. The police urge any witnesses or individuals with knowledge of the incident to assist in the investigation, as Tanya’s attackers remain at large.

Mom and Dad May Time be kind to your Hearts and Memories replace the sadness. RIP Tanya!!!!
