“Yam Head” Charged with Truck Driver’s Murder in St. Mary

Twenty-nine-year-old Shaquille Wilson, also known as “Yam Head,” of Days Mountain in Oracabessa, St. Mary, has been charged in connection with the murder of 59-year-old Winston Wheeler, a truck driver from Days Mountain, who was shot and killed in his community on Saturday, March 30.

Wilson was charged over the weekend with Murder, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of Ammunition, Using a Firearm to Commit a Felony, Burglary, and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with Aggravation.

Reports indicate that around 12:45 a.m., Wheeler was at home with family members when Wilson and two other men kicked open his kitchen door and opened fire, hitting him multiple times.

Wheeler managed to run from the house but collapsed outside and was later transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Following an investigation, two other men, 20-year-old Ojay Bignall, also known as “Hell Gate,” of Black Smith Lane in Seaforth, St. Thomas, and 21-year-old Miles Beckford, also known as “Scubba,” of Day Mountain district in St. Mary, were taken into custody and charged in connection with the murder.

Wilson was taken into custody late last week and subsequently charged.
