Kingston, Jamaica: For the third season of Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum title partnering with the Jamaica Premier League (JPL), there is high anticipation of more opportunities for locally based players, as expressed at the recent league launch.
“Over time, together we have seen an expanded league schedule, new teams enter the fray, and of course, the continued export of JPL players to the United States, Europe and Asia, which is a testament to the continued development of the league,” Wray Rum Brand Manager, Kerry-Ann Bryan, said at the office of the Jamacia Football Federation.
Bryan shared the excitement at the prospects of further growth of the league and the opportunities provided through the “football movement”, especially with the FIFA World Cup 2026 looming large.
“We don’t just celebrate the start of a new season; we celebrate football’s power to unite communities, unearth the potential and talent of our people, and showcase the very best of Jamaica,” she said.
Since the end of the season, the Cavalier captain Richard King and his teammate Jalmaro Calvin have signed for Scottish club St. Mirren FC, while Dwayne Atkinson has moved on to Rhodes Island FC in the United Soccer Leagues (USL) in the USA, among others.

Pivot and Progress
Owen Hill, CEO of Professional Football Jamaica Limited (PFJL) says that the Jamaica Premier League is at a pivotal moment in its existence.
“It’s been quite a journey. We are excited about the prospects. We are at a real pivot. There are a few things that will change going forward, but it is for the better,” Hill told the packed conference room. “I guarantee you in five years’ time, you will definitely look back and say 2025 was actually another watershed moment for football in Jamaica.”
Hill says that after expanding the league to 14 teams, it is now time to expand the earning capacity to facilitate even further growth of the clubs and the league as a whole.
“We went through some teething pains and learnt, as we moved forward guided ultimately by strategy. We need to be playing more games and for that to happen, that means expanding our commercial reach to get more partners on board and to get the clubs in a self-sustaining way and to facilitate what is considered a competitive league,” Hill explained.
Hill believes that title sponsor Wray and Nephew has been the perfect partner and is committed to ensuring that they see a return on their investment.
“Wray and Nephew have consistently shown that they are the spirit of football in Jamaica. We are massively grateful for their support, consistently they have stepped up to the plate and they know that football in Jamaica is greater than just football. They have shown, they have literally invested in Jamaica, and we are grateful we are going to protect their brand,” Hill said.
