KINGSTON, Jamaica — World2Fly has made aviation history with the successful landing of its inaugural non-stop flight from Lisbon, Portugal, to Montego Bay, Jamaica. The landmark flight touched down at Sangster International Airport on Wednesday, marking the first-ever direct air connection between the two countries.
The 10-hour journey departed from Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport and arrived in Montego Bay with 358 passengers and crew onboard. Operated by World2Fly, the airline arm of the Iberostar Group’s travel division, World2Meet (W2M), the new route will offer weekly flights every Wednesday until October 1, 2025. Service is provided on an Airbus A330-300, with a seating capacity of 388, designed to ensure comfort and efficiency for long-haul holiday travellers.
The flights are part of Newblue’s holiday packages, a W2M tour operator, which promote Jamaica’s renowned appeal—its idyllic beaches, lush landscapes, vibrant culture, and a wide array of high-quality accommodations.
Bruno Claeys, Managing Director of World2Fly, described the launch as a key milestone for the airline’s growth in the Portuguese market. “Jamaica is an alluring destination for those seeking adventure, relaxation, and exotic experiences. This new route reflects our dedication to connecting Portuguese travellers to dream locations,” Claeys said.
Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett, welcomed the new service, calling it a significant step forward in strengthening ties between Jamaica and Portugal. “This historic flight opens our doors to Portuguese and European travellers looking for an authentic Caribbean experience,” said Bartlett. “With affordable fares and weekly service, we’re making it easier for families and tourists to experience all that Jamaica has to offer.”
Bartlett noted that the partnership is expected to bring over 6,000 European visitors to Jamaica during the season, with potential for expansion in the years ahead. “Jamaica is ready to show Portuguese travellers why we remain the Caribbean’s leading destination,” he added.
The launch of this direct flight route is poised to boost Jamaica’s tourism sector while offering Portuguese travellers a new and exciting escape to the Caribbean.
