A St. James woman who reportedly threw her five-month-old baby from the roof of her home to her death on Tuesday, December 6, 2023, was again remanded into custody until September 4.
The accused, 27-year-old Shamoya Green, of a Barrett Hall address, is charged with the murder of her five-month-old daughter, Destiny Brown. Green was supposed to appear before the St. James Parish Court on Wednesday, but it was reported that she was unable to travel to court due to seizures and is unfit to enter a plea.
The presiding judge, Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton, ordered a writ to have Green taken to court on the next date if her medical condition improves enough for her to travel from South Camp Road Adult Correctional Facility in St. Andrew, where she is being held.
According to police reports, around 5:35 p.m., Green was at the apartment building where she resides with her baby’s father and other family members when an argument developed over the status of their relationship.
When the boyfriend indicated that he didn’t want to talk to her at the moment, Green reportedly became enraged and rushed out of the room. She then took the child to the top of the three-story building and threw her to the concrete pavement below.
An alarm was raised, and the baby’s father rushed her to the hospital, where she died while undergoing treatment.
The matter was reported to the police, and following two months of investigation, Green was subsequently charged with the murder of her own child.
