Montego Bay, St. James – A woman was fatally shot by a police officer during an altercation along Barnett Street in downtown Montego Bay last night.
Preliminary reports indicate that the woman, believed to be a sex worker, was involved in a dispute with a man when a police officer intervened.
The situation escalated, and the woman allegedly attacked the officer. In response, the officer drew his service weapon and fired, hitting the woman in her upper body. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has been notified and is currently investigating the incident.
