Westmoreland, Jamaica – A dramatic police operation on Thursday morning led to the successful rescue of a woman who had been abducted by armed men in Grange Hill, Westmoreland. Two of the suspected abductors were fatally shot during an alleged gunfight with police, while the woman was rescued unharmed.
Reports are that around 6:00 a.m., the woman was driving along a roadway in Grange Hill when her path was blocked by a log, placed there by her attackers. She was forcibly removed from her vehicle, blindfolded, and transported to a two-bedroom board house in the neighbouring parish of Hanover.
Law enforcement officers, acting on intelligence, launched a rescue mission. During the operation, a shootout reportedly ensued between the police and the kidnappers, resulting in the deaths of two suspects.
Two other men, described by the police as known violence producers, managed to escape during the exchange of gunfire. A search is ongoing for their capture.
The police also confirmed the seizure of two firearms at the scene of the rescue.
Investigators believe the abduction was orchestrated by a gang leader who is currently incarcerated. Authorities say inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
