A quiet rural community in north-west Manchester was rocked by a gruesome discovery early Tuesday morning after the body of a 54-year-old woman was found along a lonely stretch of roadway in Shirehampton, with a stab wound to the head and a knife still lodged in her neck.
Police investigators have launched a full-scale probe into what they are describing as a brutal and cold-blooded murder. The identity of the deceased woman has not yet been released pending notification of her family.
Reports are that the woman was last seen alive around 9:00 p.m. on Monday, after she left a shop in the area. When residents awoke Tuesday morning, they stumbled upon the chilling scene — the woman’s body lying motionless along the roadway, surrounded by blood.
The police were quickly alerted, and a team from the Mandeville Police Division processed the scene. The body was later removed to the morgue for a post-mortem examination.
Residents say the community has been left in shock and fear, as nothing like this has ever happened in Shirehampton, a normally peaceful farming district nestled between Huntley and Maidstone.
Detectives are appealing to anyone with information to contact the Mandeville CIB or the nearest police station.
