The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) says intensified Westmoreland traffic enforcement operations will soon be rolled out across the parish as police move to address rising concerns about road fatalities and reckless driving.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Jordaine Allen, Operations Officer for the Westmoreland Division, announced the measures during a recent monthly meeting of the Westmoreland Municipal Corporation in Savanna-la-Mar.
According to DSP Allen, the enhanced operations are part of a wider policing strategy aimed at strengthening public safety and improving order throughout the parish.
He said the division has observed continued indiscipline among motorists, along with a troubling number of fatal crashes, prompting the need for increased traffic enforcement activities and greater police visibility on the roads.
“We will increase our traffic operations, as we note numerous fatalities on our roads and the indiscipline of motorists that we are trying to curb at this time,” Allen stated.
The senior officer also highlighted a decline in major crimes within the parish. He reported that murders in Westmoreland have dropped by 38 per cent since the start of the year, with 10 murders recorded so far compared to 16 during the corresponding period in 2025.
DSP Allen credited the reduction to ongoing operational efforts carried out across communities in the division.
He added that police will continue strategic operations targeting wanted individuals and persons of interest as part of efforts to maintain public safety and reduce criminal activity across Westmoreland.
