Improvements to police infrastructure and communication networks are steadily advancing across Westmoreland, according to divisional head Othneil Dobson.
Addressing the monthly sitting of the Westmoreland Municipal Corporation in Savanna-la-Mar on February 12, Senior Superintendent Dobson reported that the majority of police stations within the division have resumed full operations following earlier setbacks.
He noted that repair work is still underway at the Bluefields Police Station, making it the only facility not yet completely restored. Despite this, officers assigned to that area continue to serve residents from a temporary base.
The senior officer further outlined that electricity has been reinstated at nearly all stations across the parish. Where landline services remain affected, alternative communication measures have been implemented to maintain contact with the public. Mobile connectivity now links every station, ensuring accessibility even in the absence of traditional phone lines. He added that, with the exception of Bluefields and Whitehouse, electrical service has been fully returned.
Turning to internal matters, Dobson indicated that officer morale remains steady despite ongoing challenges. While acknowledging that conditions are not yet ideal, he expressed confidence in continued improvements and operational gains.
He also reaffirmed the division’s commitment to strengthening public safety through sustained policing efforts and close coordination with municipal leaders and community members. The superintendent credited local stakeholders for their continued cooperation, emphasizing that partnership remains central to maintaining order throughout the parish.
