Police in Manchester have charged three employees of a fast-food establishment following an investigation into the alleged theft of customers’ banking information and the fraudulent purchase of cryptocurrency.
The accused are 20-year-old cashier Abigail Preddie, 22-year-old Shane Williams, and 29-year-old Shaquiel Salmon, all of Manchester addresses. They face charges including unauthorised access to computer data, simple larceny, conspiracy to defraud, and engaging in transactions involving criminal property.
According to police reports, the trio was taken into custody over the weekend during an operation launched after a customer of a major financial institution flagged suspicious transactions exceeding $600,000.
Investigators allege that while assigned to the drive-thru, Williams secretly photographed customers’ credit and debit card details. The compromised information was reportedly used to purchase Bitcoin through overseas vendors.
Law enforcement officials further state that the cryptocurrency was later resold, with the proceeds allegedly laundered and transferred to accounts in Jamaica.
Authorities confirmed that investigations remain active, with police working closely alongside the affected banking institution as the probe continues.
