Detectives attached to the Westmoreland Police have arrested and charged a 40-year-old bike taxi operator after eight rounds of ammunition were allegedly found in his possession in Revival, Westmoreland.
The accused has been identified as Dane Pringle, a bike taxi operator from Brighton District in the parish.
Police reports indicate that officers were conducting an operation in the area on Monday afternoon when they saw Pringle travelling on a motorcycle and signalled him to stop.
Pringle reportedly complied but allegedly attempted to flee shortly afterwards. He was quickly apprehended by the police.
A search of his person allegedly resulted in the discovery of eight 7.62 cartridges, which are used in AK-47 rifles.
Pringle was taken into custody and subsequently charged on Wednesday with unauthorised possession of ammunition.
