Kingston, Jamaica – Over 3,000 senior citizens in West Kingston celebrated Christmas with joy and gratitude as Member of Parliament Desmond McKenzie hosted his annual holiday treat, providing a variety of food and personal-care items to the elderly in the community.
This year marked the 61st staging of the beloved event, a long-standing tradition upheld by McKenzie, regardless of his political position.
“We have continued, whether we are in government or whether we are in Opposition, we have always maintained that tradition for the last 61 years,” McKenzie stated during the event.
He emphasized the deeper meaning of the season, saying, “The importance of Christmas is not just about fun; it’s about sharing and ensuring that those who are not as fortunate as we are, that they have the benefit of the Christmas.”
The celebration, which has become a cornerstone of the community’s holiday festivities, also extends its reach beyond senior citizens. McKenzie announced plans to host six children’s treats across the constituency on Thursday and Friday.
“We are not only looking after you, the elderly, but right across the constituency. Christmas, we all come together as one, as one family,” he said.
