Wendy Williams’ Family Launches GoFundMe to Fight Guardianship and Bring Her Home

TV personality Wendy Williams, 60, is the focus of a family-organized GoFundMe campaign following her emotional revelations about living under guardianship. Diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia in May 2023, Williams has been under legal guardianship, a situation she described as isolating and dehumanizing during a recent phone call to The Breakfast Club with her former radio co-host Charlamagne tha God.

Williams’ Heartbreaking Revelations

In the interview, Williams refuted claims of cognitive impairment, asserting, “I am not cognitively impaired… but I feel like I am in prison.” She described life in her current facility, where residents are significantly older and where she faces constant restrictions.

“You have to get keys to unlock the door, to press the elevator to go downstairs,” Williams shared, adding that she has been forced to take medication without understanding its purpose.

“For the last three years, I have been caught up in the system. I’m caught up in this system,” she said tearfully, revealing she only has $15 to her name.

Family Advocates for Her Release

In response, Williams’ family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $50,000, aiming to bring her back to her home in Florida. The fundraiser highlights the emotional and financial toll the situation has taken on her family and the isolation Williams endures under the guardianship.

The campaign reads:
“For far too long, Wendy has faced the challenges of being unjustly placed under guardianship and labeled as incapacitated, despite her strong will and determination to live her life independently.”

The family alleges that the guardianship has severed her connections with loved ones, leaving her without a support network. They argue that reuniting Williams with her family in Florida is critical to her well-being.

Support for Legal Representation

The GoFundMe, which has raised over $20,000 so far, will be used to secure legal representation for her family. They aim to expedite Williams’ return home and terminate the guardianship, which they claim has contributed to her feelings of isolation and loss of autonomy.

“Legal services can be prohibitively expensive, and without our support, they may struggle to navigate the complexities of the situation,” the appeal states.

Calls for Change

Williams’ emotional statements have ignited conversations about the guardianship system, with many fans and supporters advocating for her autonomy. During the interview, she asked Charlamagne directly, “Do I seem [cognitively impaired], goddamn it?”

A Call for Help

The family’s GoFundMe campaign concludes with a plea to supporters:
“Let’s come together to support Wendy and her family during this critical time!”

As Wendy Williams’ story continues to unfold, the campaign highlights the urgent need for action to ensure her well-being and independence.
