Vybz Kartel Music Should Not be Banned – Producer Skatta Burrell

Kingston, Jamaica (McN)South East, St Ann Member of Parliament, Lisa Hanna started receiving threats on social media after she spoke about Vybz Kartel.

Music producer Cordel ‘Skatta’ Burrell is speaking out against Lisa Hanna’s statement, saying banning Vybz Kartel’s music is not a correct thing to do in terms of civil rights.

The People’s National Party South East, St Ann Member of Parliament, Lisa Hanna in an interview on Nationwide 90 FM on Wednesday, stated that, the country needs to discuss whether the music of convicted persons should be banned from the public airwaves.

Burrell asked,

“You mean to tell me sey prisoners don’t have any rights? If he can get his voice out there, it should not be restricted.” Burrell highlighted.

Adidja Palmer, known as dancehall star Vybz Kartel or “World Boss” was sentenced in April 2014 to life in prison for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.

He is to serve 35 years in prison before he becomes eligible for parole.

Producer Burrell, say the artist cannot be stopped from recording, because recording can be done over the phone.

Music producer Cordel ‘Skatta’ Burrell says the convicted Kartel can use his allotted phone time to record a song. He pointed out that if Kartel gets two (2) minutes of daily phone time, he can use those minutes to record.

Head of the Police Cybercrimes Unit Inspector Warren Williams says the unit has not received a reported complaint of threats against Lisa Hanna.

He said persons who are affected by threats on social media should report the incident(s) to the police so that proper investigation can be carried out.
