Jamaica’s track and field community is grieving the loss of seasoned hurdles coach Rahnsomn Edwards, who died on Monday following an illness.
Edwards was widely regarded for his dedication to developing young athletes and strengthening Jamaica’s rich athletics tradition at the grassroots level. Over the years, he made a lasting impact at several prominent secondary schools, mentoring and guiding student-athletes both on and off the track.
His coaching career spanned institutions including Kingston College, Jamaica College, St Jago High, Vere Technical High School, and Manchester High School. At each stop, Edwards contributed to the growth and discipline of aspiring hurdlers, earning respect within the local athletics fraternity.
The news of his passing has prompted an outpouring of condolences from across the sporting community, as colleagues, former athletes, and supporters reflect on his commitment to youth development and track and field in Jamaica.
