The BBC is reporting that the United States has deployed the world’s largest warship, the USS Gerald R. Ford, to the Caribbean as part of an intensified campaign targeting regional drug traffickers.
US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered the aircraft carrier to move from the Mediterranean Sea to the waters off Latin America, marking a major escalation in US military activity in the region.
The USS Gerald R. Ford, which can carry up to 90 aircraft, joins a growing American naval presence in the Caribbean that now includes eight additional warships, a nuclear submarine, and F-35 fighter jets.
According to US defence reports, the military has conducted a series of airstrikes on vessels linked to drug traffickers, with the most recent strike taking place today. Officials say the operation targeted a ship allegedly operated by members of the Tren de Aragua gang, resulting in the deaths of six men identified as narco-terrorists.
The deployment represents one of the most significant US military build-ups in the Caribbean in recent years, as Washington intensifies efforts to dismantle transnational criminal networks in the region.
