Firefighters responded to an early morning blaze on Saturday that destroyed a two-storey structure along Barracks Road in Montego Bay.
Reports indicate that shortly before 8:00 a.m., residents raised an alarm after thick smoke and flames were observed coming from the mostly abandoned building in the inner-city community.
Units from the Jamaica Fire Brigade, including three trucks from the Barnett Street Fire Station, were dispatched to the location. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby properties. Among the structures in close proximity was a garage used to service vehicles assigned to the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
The dwelling was extensively damaged by the fire. One woman, identified as the occupant of the premises, has been left homeless as a result of the incident.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
