Kingston, Jamaica – A devastating fire ripped through the Constant Spring Arcade in St. Andrew on Monday morning, leaving two shops completely destroyed and another severely damaged.
According to Assistant Superintendent Courtney Thompson of the York Park Fire Station, firefighters were alerted to the blaze around 8:05 am and quickly dispatched four units from Half Way Tree, Stony Hill, and York Park to the scene.
“Upon arrival, we found the fire contained to three shops, all utilized as snack centers,” Thompson stated. “Despite our efforts, two of these shops were completely destroyed, while a third suffered significant damage.”
Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours before bringing it under control and conducting cooling-down operations.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with fire investigators expected to commence their examination shortly.
The Constant Spring Arcade is owned by the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation.
