Canadian-Based Party Promoter Fatally Shot in St. Andrew

Kingston, Jamaica — Mikhail Thompson, a Canadian-based party promoter and entrepreneur, was gunned down late Friday night, December 27, outside his apartment in the Parish of St. Andrew.

Thompson, widely known by the alias “World Great” was visiting Jamaica and had been staying at Maryfield Apartments on Marley Road.

Reports indicate that Thompson, 37, originally from Westmoreland but now a resident of Canada, stepped outside his apartment after receiving a phone call. Witnesses say he was engaged in a conversation with individuals in a parked car when gunfire erupted. The perpetrators reportedly fired multiple shots, hitting Thompson in the head and upper body before fleeing the scene.

Thompson was rushed to the University Hospital of the West Indies, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Law enforcement officials who processed the scene recovered over 14 spent shell casings, indicating the intensity of the attack.

Known for his prominent role in Canada’s entertainment scene, Thompson had built a reputation as a party promoter and the owner of the clothing brand “Top Jankro.”

The motive for the attack remains unclear, and investigators are pursuing leads to identify the perpetrators.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward as they work to bring those responsible to justice.
