A police operation in Portland early Wednesday morning has resulted in the fatal shooting of two men in the Sherwood Forest community, located within the San San policing area.
Reports indicate that law enforcement officers carried out a targeted operation at a residence shortly after 5:00 a.m. The premises were linked to an individual currently on bail for kidnapping and robbery charges. Investigators had also received intelligence suggesting that additional occupants at the location were connected to a homicide committed in the San San area earlier this year.
According to police accounts, officers encountered armed resistance upon entering a section of the house. One of the men allegedly opened fire, while another reportedly aimed a weapon at the team. Officers responded by taking defensive action and discharging their firearms.
Both suspects were later transported to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Authorities confirmed that two illegal firearms along with ammunition were recovered at the scene.
No members of the police team sustained physical injuries during the incident. However, it was reported that one officer has been left severely shaken.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has been notified and is expected to conduct a probe into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
