St Catherine, Jamaica – Two men were fatally shot by the police in an alleged armed confrontation along the Spanish Town Bypass on Thursday night.
The deceased have been identified as 44-year-old Everton Spike and 33-year-old Jason Spike, both carpenters from Port Henderson Road, St Catherine.
According to police reports, at approximately 7:45 p.m., a patrol team spotted the two men walking near Okra Lane, heading towards Dela Vega City.
The police say they attempted to accost the men, but they allegedly brandished firearms and opened fire. Law enforcement officers reportedly returned fire, and when the shooting ended, both men were found suffering from gunshot wounds.
The police recovered two illegal firearms loaded with ammunition, along with four spent shells from the scene.
The injured men were transported to the Spanish Town Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has since launched a probe into the shooting as part of standard procedure in police-involved fatalities.
Authorities continue their investigations into the incident.
